ABOUT REVERSE AUTOMATIC BRAKING

If your vehicle has this available feature, Reverse Automatic Braking^± alerts you and/or automatically provides hard emergency braking to help avoid collisions with detected vehicles and objects directly behind you when you’re in REVERSE.

• Reverse Automatic Braking uses rear-looking radar and ultrasonic sensors that can detect objects directly behind the vehicle when in REVERSE. It also uses Intelligent Brake Assist, which can provide a boost to driver-initiated braking when a Reverse Automatic Emergency Braking situation is detected.
  
• When you’re moving in REVERSE at low speeds and in a potential collision situation with a detected object directly behind your vehicle, you’ll receive an alert that consists of two Safety Alert Seat pulses on both sides of the seat (if equipped) or a single rear beep, depending on your selected Alert Type menu option. You’ll also see an alert appear on your Rear Vision Camera display.
  
• If the feature detects you’re in imminent danger of colliding with a detected object, you’ll receive an alert that consists of five pulses on both sides of the Safety Alert Seat (if equipped), or repeated beeps from rear speakers may sound, depending on your selected Alert Type menu option. You’ll also see an alert appear on your Rear Vision Camera display.
  
• If you don’t respond quickly or the situation happens suddenly, the Reverse Automatic Braking feature is designed to automatically apply hard emergency braking.

• You can override automatic braking at any time by pressing the accelerator or by braking; if you don’t press the brake pedal soon after the stop, the Electric Parking Brake may be set, which you can release with the Electric Parking Brake button while pressing the brake pedal.
  
• Before releasing the brakes or overriding automatic braking, you should check the Rear Vision Camera display and check the area around the vehicle to make sure it is safe to proceed.
  

• This feature can be turned on and off using the Parking Assist switch or by pressing the Parking Assist icon on your infotainment system, depending on your vehicle. You can also turn the feature off through the Settings menu of your infotainment system. Go to the Rear Park Assist section of the Settings menu and disable “Alert and Brake” to do this. If you turn Reverse Automatic Braking off, the feature will automatically turn back on if you restart the vehicle.
  
• Reverse Automatic Braking will turn off automatically if it detects a trailer attached to the rear of your vehicle. If you attach a bike or other object to the rear of your vehicle, you should turn the feature off. These objects can engage automatic braking and prevent you from backing up. If you turn your vehicle off and back on again while the object is attached, you must disable the feature again before you can continue driving.
  

Reverse Automatic Braking may have difficulty detecting the following objects:

• Vehicles that are low to the road surface or have a small or irregular shape.
• A truck or trailer that has no cargo in the cargo bed.
• Vehicles with cargo extending from the back end.  
• Objects attached to the rear of a vehicle detected behind your vehicle.

• Conditions that are associated with low visibility, such as fog, rain, snow or road spray, may limit the performance of the system.
• Water droplets from rain or snow that remain on the radar sensors may also limit the system’s ability to detect objects.
